As a two-time cancer survivor, Criscell knows what it means to live life to the fullest. Her mother was by her side as she fought leukemia at 17, and fought to be around for her own children at the age of 33.
She is #momstrong.
Criscell was on her varsity cheer team in high school and looking forward to competing in the national championships when she suddenly collapsed during a performance. She was immediately rushed to the hospital and received devastating news.
She had Leukemia.
With her mother by her side, she made an important decision.
“I can change my attitude, I can be miserable and let this take me or I can make every moment happy.”
She received a bone marrow transplant from her 8-year-old sister, which put her cancer into remission. Remission meant she had survived leukemia.
Motherhood After Cancer
Because of the cancer treatments she received during her teenage years, Criscell was unable to get pregnant. She and her new husband immediately decided adoption was the path they would take.
After six long years, her dream of becoming a mother came true.
“Being a mom for the first time was amazing.”
Unfortunately, her cancer journey wasn’t over. At the young age of 33, she beat cancer a second time and she and her husband were able to adopt their second child.
Through everything, her motto became, “Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured.”
