“We have one in five children in the state of Utah that go hungry.”

Wasatch Community Foundation is dedicated to helping find a solution for the many children going hungry in Wasatch County in Utah.

“Youth don’t go to food pantries, their parents do. We needed to bring the food to where the kids were.”

A Community of Caring

The youth of Wasatch County are facing poverty and hunger every day. With 257 homeless families in the county, the need for support is very real. Children are going without.

The Wasatch Community Foundation was created to address the problem of childhood hunger. Their community of caring class came together and created a pantry. They painted walls and the surrounding community brought in food to fill the pantry.

“I think it’s our responsibility to let families know where they can go for help.”

High School Food Pantries

It is embarrassing for students to admit that their parents didn’t have enough money for food. As the foundation built their program, they kept that in mind and developed a discreet program.

They are able to order their groceries online and have it dropped off to a disclosed locker on campus. Then they stop by and pick up a backpack of food they ordered. The program is making an impact on the children and they hope to start eradicating hunger close to home.

“This is something we need to eradicate, this is something we need to fix.”

The more people that get involved, the better off communities become. There is more than enough food to go around, and hopefully one day, these children will no longer know what it’s like to be hungry.
